You will need the batting or flannel for the middle layer of your squares if you choose to put a middle in (we've done rag quilts without anything in the middle and they were still very warm and snuggly). On this one we used a layer of flannel in the middle cut the same size as our main squares, this makes the rags extra fluffy. We used this Light Blue Solid Flannel by Robert Kaufman, you'll need 2.5 yards.
